    An unsung player, Haywood Henry was one of the finest baritone saxophonists of the swing era; so good, in fact, that he occasionally substituted for Harry Carney with Duke Ellington's Orchestra. Henry started on clarinet (which he continued using as a double throughout his career) and tenor before focusing on the baritone. He played with the 'Bama Street Collegians in when he was. Sgt. Henry H. Haywood was a New York City Police Officer who was a member of Teddy Roosevelt's Rough Riders Troop K. He fought in the Battle of Las Guasimas, Cuba, June 24th He died in the divisional hospital on July 2nd from a bullet wound received in the abdomen during the attack on San Juan Hill July 1st.
